Maverix Private Equity is a Toronto-based private equity firm led by an experienced and talented team with the background, network, and track record necessary to successfully execute a technology-enabled growth and disruption investment strategy. We are investing out of our inaugural fund, Maverix Growth Equity Fund I. Maverix targets North American businesses with rapidly growing revenues and evidence of a clear, profitable business model. The average position size is US$50M for meaningful minority positions in our portfolio companies.

Opportunity:
As a Partner, Investments within the Maverix Private Equity team, you will play a critical role in shaping the firm’s investment strategy, leading deal execution, and managing a portfolio of investments. This senior leadership position requires a seasoned professional with a proven track record in private equity, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to drive value creation across investments. You will collaborate closely with other partners, the executive team, and portfolio company management to identify opportunities, enhance performance, and achieve the firm’s long-term objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Investment Strategy Development:
o Support the formulation and lead the execution of the firm’s investment strategy, with a focus on identifying and pursuing high-potential investment opportunities.
o Collaborate with the Managing Partners and other senior leaders to set strategic priorities and align investment activities with the firm’s overall objectives.
Deal Sourcing and Execution:
o Source and evaluate potential investment opportunities directly through building relationships with entrepreneurs and indirectly through a robust network of industry contacts, investment banks, and other intermediaries.
o Leadership of an investment industry segment in one of our target markets and build domain expertise in that industry.
o Lead the due diligence process, including financial analysis, market assessment, risk evaluation, and deal structuring.
o Negotiate and close complex transactions, ensuring alignment with the firm’s financial and strategic goals.
Portfolio Management:
o Oversee a portfolio of investments, working closely with portfolio company management to drive operational improvements, strategic initiatives, and value creation.
o Monitor portfolio performance, including financial metrics, strategic milestones, and market positioning, and make recommendations for adjustments as needed.
o Serve as a board member for selected portfolio companies, providing strategic guidance, governance oversight and overseeing implementation of value creation plan
Investor Relations and Fundraising:
o Build and maintain strong relationships with investors, co-investors, and other stakeholders.
o Play a supporting role in fundraising efforts, including presenting to prospective investors, managing due diligence processes, and articulating the firm’s investment thesis.
Team Leadership and Development:
o Mentor and develop junior investment professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
o Contribute to the firm’s thought leadership and represent the firm at industry conferences, events, and in the media.
o Represent the firm at industry conferences, panels, and other public forums, sharing expertise and enhancing the firm's reputation.
o Develop and publish articles, white papers, and other content to demonstrate the firm's leadership in the private equity space.
Qualifications:
o Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience (e.g., private equity, venture capital or investment banking)
o Proven track record of successful deal sourcing, execution, and portfolio management, from sourcing and evaluating deals, to structuring and execution, ongoing supervision of business operations, and exit
o Deep understanding of financial analysis, valuation, and deal structuring.
o Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations and make sound decisions.
o Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
o Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with investors, portfolio company executives, and industry contacts.
o Positive attitude, entrepreneurial mindset and willing to “roll-up” the sleeves
